Our History:

We at North View have been blessed repeatedly by our Lord over the years.  As a small mission in the late 1940’s, our fledgling congregation was sponsored by Temple Baptist Church of Little Rock.  By October 1948 our mission congregation numbered 37 members.

On October 10, 1948, in the living room of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Armbrust’s home at 107 Atkins Street, our members met to organize into a New Testament-patterned church and we chose the name Palm Street Baptist Church.  By November 1948, corner property at 202 South Palm Street had been purchased and the first story of our first church building had been completed.

On November 21, 1948 services were held in our new building for the first time.  Elder Warren F. Hill was our first pastor, and remained through 1949.  Since then, the following men have served in this capacity:

E.T. Burgess        1949-1952
H. W. Darst        1953-1957
Levi Reynolds        1957-1959
William H. Dowell   1960
Allison Brown        1960-1963
James C. Wilcox        1963-1969
Thurman Miller        1969-1972
L. C. Turner        1973-1974
Paul J. Rice        1974-1981
Richard E. Matthews 1981-1982
Duane Kingston        1982-1989
Allen Brown (interim)    1990 and associate 1991-1998
James Ray Raines    1990 to 2015-Pastor Emeritus 2015 to present
Mike Cantrell        2015-Our current Pastor

As our congregation grew and ministered to eastern North Little Rock, expansion of our facilities was needed.  A second story was completed on the building during the early 1950s to accommodate the growth.

Second story addition at 202 South Palm Street location.

As a firm foundation, rich heritage and strong ministry was developed, each generation of our members trusted God through strong faith and commitment and sacrifice.  This assured future generations of the privilege of hearing the Gospel of Christ and the teaching, grounding, and training of God’s people.

In the mid 1950s, our Lord continued to bless with growth in our membership.  In response, our members stepped out by faith to provide additional space to meet the needs.  The original two-story building became our classroom wing, and, in 1956, God blessed with the addition of a new sanctuary wing facing South Palm Street.  This provided a formal entrance foyer, restrooms and new auditorium for worship services.

Our assembly continued to grow over the next two decades and by the 1970s our facilities on the corner property on South Palm Street were becoming overcrowded.  Bounded by residences on two sides and the streets of South Palm and East Arkansas Avenue, there was no more room for expansion.  However, land just east of the Rose City area along Lynch Drive had been donated to the church, and it was decided to relocate and build new facilities there.

In 1975 construction began on our new sanctuary and classroom building located just off of Lynch Drive at 800 Page Mill Road.  Situated next door to Lynch Drive Elementary School, the new building would house a sanctuary, two Sunday School classroom wings and offices.  On November 2, 1975 we met in our new building for the last time as Palm Street Baptist Church and voted to change our name to Lynch View Missionary Baptist Church.

Now in a new neighborhood, our folks began to work to include this new community in our outreach.  As new housing developments went in nearby, our congregation continued to grow and our assembly increased during the 1970s and 1980s.

In December, 1990, James Ray Raines left his office as President of Central Baptist College of Conway to become our pastor.  Under his leadership, we continued to grow in ministry and strength.  We voted to add a Family Life Center (FLC) to our church plant.  This building was to house a basketball court, a stage area, dining and kitchen facilities and much needed additional classrooms.  The FLC  was completed on April 3, 1994 and a dedication ceremony was held on May 22, 1994.

In 2013, we voted to honor Pastor Raines by naming our FLC for him.  Our FLC has been the site of countless fellowship dinners, youth activities, sporting events (including Upward Basketball programs and tournaments), Easter musical drama presentations, Gospel Sings, our ongoing Food Pantry ministry, and the meeting place for several of our Sunday School classes.  Additionally, the FLC also has served as a place where members can gather for “unofficial” events and physical workouts.

In 2012 we realized that our members were coming to attend our services from a wide variety of places in the greater North Little Rock area.  Following much prayer and discussion, committees were elected to research sale of our property and a relocation process of our church home to a more centralized location.  That same year our Page Mill Road facilities in North Little Rock (Rose City) were placed on the market with an additional 41 adjacent acres.

In the fall of 2013, a satellite location was secured in the Green Business Center at 309 West Kiehl Avenue in Sherwood, Arkansas.  We voted to change our name from Lynch View Missionary Baptist Church to North View Missionary Baptist Church, and on October 20, 2013, we began holding a morning worship service and Sunday School at the Sherwood location while continuing services at our Page Mill location in North Little Rock (Rose City).

We have since relocated to Indian Hills at 6801 J.F.K. Boulevard in North Little Rock.   The first service was held at this location on 10:30 am, Sunday November 15, 2015.  Our God has blessed richly in this three-year-long endeavor.  Today our facilities remain dedicated to the service of our Lord and for His use in all our ministries.  Although the buildings represent our church in the physical sense, they are only meeting places for the people who make up the congregation of North View Missionary Baptist Church.
